Why do we need a Code of Conduct?

We aim to hire people who are honest, humble, responsible, curious and full of creativity. For everyone that acts like an owner, the Code of Conduct should be common sense, a reminder of your responsibility to achieve the highest standard of honest and ethical behavior and to use your best judgment in any situation involving Laguna Looks LLC or Simply Obsessed.

Who does this Code of Conduct apply to?

Every employee, contractor and officer is required to read, understand and follow the Code of Conduct. Every year, every applicable individual will need to re-affirm their understanding of the Code of Conduct and certify you will comply with it. Training will be made available to anyone with questions about any aspect of the Code of Conduct.

How do I address a situation that isn’t outlined in the Code of Conduct?

Ask yourself the following questions;

  • Is it legal?
  • Is it ethical?
  • Is it in compliance with the Simply Obsessed Employee Handbook?
  • If I was the affected party, how would I feel?
  • If this was posted publicly, how would I feel?

If you answer “no”, “unsure”, or “maybe”, to any of the following questions, you should contact your manager or external Corporate Counsel ASAP. Corporate Counsel information is published in the employee handbook and reference document in Google Drive.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

Discrimination or harassment of any kind, including discrimination or harassment on the basis of race, color, religion, veteran status, national origin, ancestry, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, family status, pardoned conviction, mental or physical disability, or any other characteristic protected by law is strictly prohibited.

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST

We entrust every employee to avoid conflicts of interest by always putting Simply Obsessed first - not yourself or your team. Ensure that your judgment and ability to make decisions is not compromised and never use your position at Simply Obsessed to serve your personal interests or relationships without prior explicit approval.

A conflict of interest may exist when:

  • Your personal interests, or the interests of your friends or family, interfere or appear to interfere with Simply Obsessed’s interests.
  • You have an incentive to benefit yourself, your friends or family at Simply Obsessed’s cost; or
  • You, your friends or family receive improper benefits as a result of your position at Simply Obsessed.

Simply Obsessed is a family run organization. As such, conflicts of interests are inevitable for many of our employees. The owners are not unreasonable nor would they prohibit benefits or enhanced permissions from being shared with yourself or a non-employee. The purpose of this section is to outline that professional judgment and approval should be sought prior to entering or acting on a conflict of interest.

DOING THE RIGHT THING

Do what’s best for Simply Obsessed. Do what’s best for the customer, your team, and your co-workers. Don’t compete with us or use your position here, opportunities, information or property for personal gain. If you are engaged in outside inventions, products, or services that relate to our existing or anticipated products and services, that relate to your duties here, or that are developed using our services, you are subject to the obligations of your applicable employment contract or Employee Handbook. We encourage outside creative expression and want each of our team members to excel in and out of work. We ask that your outside activities do not affect your ability to conduct your duties or compete with the business interests of Simply Obsessed.

KEEP INFORMATION CONFIDENTIAL

Internally, Simply Obsessed is extremely open and transparent. We expect all employees to default to absolute secrecy externally. As a rule of thumb, if the information is not publicly posted on our website, social media or elsewhere, it is NOT okay to share with anyone outside of the company. Improper disclosure of confidential information may seriously damage our reputation, expose us to liability and cause harm to our business. Only with Corporate Counsel or company owner approval should information be shared as a part of a professional expert network (or any solicitation of your expertise or strategic advice).

PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY (IP)

Our intangible assets, such as our trademarks, logos, copyrights, inventions, patents, domain names, designs, trade secrets and “know-how" are among our most valuable assets. Unauthorized or improper use can lead to a loss in their value. Our IP should not be used or disclosed without ensuring that appropriate legal safeguards - like a contract - are in place. In the same way, we must respect the IP of others. Ensure you have the proper license or permission before using any software, image, font, code, video or other media.

USE OUR RESOURCES RESPONSIBLY

We expect everyone to act like an owner and in the best interest of Simply Obsessed. You’re provided with a trove of resources, including an email account, computer equipment, software, cell phones, communications platforms, office equipment and supplies, documents, cool facilities and company credit cards. Treat each of these resources with respect and use them responsibly. Do NOT do anything with Simply Obsessed resources that is illegal, unethical, shady, gross or that you wouldn’t want shown to your parents. We expect you to spend our money cautiously, responsibly and with respect. Keep in mind that each of these resources is Simply Obsessed property, not your personal property, we have the right to access these resources at any time.

While we respect personal privacy, remember that any information sent, received or stored on any Simply Obsessed device is not considered private. If you leave Simply Obsessed, you must return all Simply Obsessed resources.

ENSURE FINANCIAL INTEGRITY

Simply Obsessed is not public, not regularly audited, nor required to report to any creditors. However, financial integrity is of particular importance to the owners. We are committed to the integrity of each of our financial statements, even for internal use only. Do your part to ensure that our financial statements are full, fair, accurate, timely and understandable. Act responsibility and exercise sound judgment regarding matters involving our finances. Keep accurate, complete and timely records of your duties and submit accurate and complete reports where applicable. Don’t mislead or improperly influence our finance team to make false or misleading coding in our finances.

COMPLY WITH THE LAW

Always follow applicable laws, rules and regulations and don’t engage in any type of illegal, unethical, fraudulent or corrupt business practices for any reason.

REPORT VIOLATIONS

It’s easy. If you see something wrong, report it. Contact your manager, the owners directly, or Corporate Counsel.
